Mapping the Smallweb

Back to index

DISCLAIMER: this is mostly opinion :)
i'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed, but the smallweb is very hard to navigate!
unlike the "normal" web, the smallweb isn't easily searched (most search engines can't see it). the main route of discovery for most websites is links, typically from other sites.
to help remember what you find, and to retrace your steps, you can draw little diagrams like this:

a map of the smallweb, demonstrating two webrings

this kind of looks like a map. a subway map, specifically! the webrings are like the different lines, and each site is a station.
you can imagine drawing something like this on a sheet of paper as you click through links, noting down the connections between each site and where they can be found.
each site in itself could also be mapped, and you could think of these as cities.
i might include some actual maps at some point, so... come back soon, i guess?
